A loft sideboard made to order: a two-tier piece on a black metal frame with fronts in a rustic oak decor, perforated metal inserts and warm lighting. It combines closed cupboards, drawers, open shelves and a working niche between the base and the top unit.
The structure is a frame of black metal profile that also forms the feet. Each front sits in its own metal surround and is divided into three fields: oak-effect panels with knots and cracks at the top and bottom, and a black perforated sheet in the middle. The perforation is more than a pattern. It lets air through, so the cupboards can hold equipment or a drinks cabinet. The handles are black metal pulls, with a metal cross on the side of the base. The lines are strict, with no curves, as loft style calls for.
The base has three sections: hinged doors at each end and three drawers in the centre. Its top is thicker than the fronts and projects slightly. The upper unit stands on two side posts, leaving an open niche across the full width for a coffee machine or a tray of glasses. Above are two narrow doors and an open bay with two shelves and no back panel, so the wall behind stays visible and the piece does not look heavy.
Warm light is built into the upper doors behind the perforation and into the side posts of the niche. This is accent lighting: in the evening the sideboard doubles as a lamp, and the work surface is not left in shadow. The same pairing of black metal and wood appears in the hinged wardrobe and shelving unit with a cabinet and the bar rack with a glass holder. Solid wood in the leading role is in the showroom furniture with live-edge wall cabinets. Our guide to industrial style explains how to fit pieces like these into a flat.
The sideboard suits a living room, dining room or open-plan kitchen where tableware storage and a small coffee or bar corner need to share one piece. We match the layout of sections, the height and the decor to the room. See custom furniture for the home.
