Slab Dining Table with a Yellow Inlay

A slab dining table made to order for a home dining room: a thick solid wood top with a yellow coloured inlay, resting on two timber frame legs. The table stands in a light room of a classically furnished flat and seats a family.

A top with a yellow inlay

The tabletop is a wide slab of solid wood with bold, swirling grain. We did not cut out the natural crack but closed it with a coloured fill: a yellow line runs across the surface and follows the shape of the split. The same inlay runs along one edge and evens out the irregular side of the board. A flaw in the wood became a pattern, and the surface stays level and smooth, so crumbs do not collect in the crack.

Frame legs of heavy timber

The table stands on two U-shaped frames of thick timber with a rail at floor level. A closed frame carries the heavy top with no apron or lengthwise ties, so there is free space underneath and chairs slide in from both sides. Armchairs on timber frames in the same tone stand beside it. Other solid wood tables are the meeting table made of two wide solid wood boards and the loft dining table on a metal base. Our piece on the Slow Home philosophy is about furniture made to last.

A table like this suits a dining room, an open-plan kitchen or a country house. We match the size, the shape of the legs and the inlay colour to the room. See custom furniture for the home.
